Photo Shoot: Ileana

I just had my second photo shoot about two weeks ago. I know it’s been a long time; but I've been dabbling in so many other creative outlets that it’s hard to find time for them all. Especially with work and motherhood!  These extracurricular have to fit in when they can.

This shoot was with Ileana.  The shoot was taken at Old Settlers in Round Rock.  I think things went well. She made it so easy and we ended up with some great shots. These pic where taken right when the weather here in Austin turned nice. It wasn't too hot and if you check out the background you can see some of those fall colors creeping through...which I love. So check them out; if you like; please leave a comment.

Here are just a few of her pictures.

These are a few of her favorites and some that I really liked too!!

Distressed Picture Canvas Project

Ok, so I said a week ago to stay tuned for me turning my picture of CJ into a distressed picture canvas. The idea to do this project came from the blog Delia Creates. You can visit it at http://www.deliacreates.blogspot.com/. Right now she's featuring this baked apple recipe and it looks simple and awesome. To get right to the insturctions for this project click here. This is a really cool blog. If I had to describe the type of blog I hope to have it would definitely be something like Delia's. She has everything from fun simple mommy crafts, to photography, to cooking.

So on with the results....

To get started on this project was a bit of a challenge for me. I went to michael's and got all the supplies about two weeks. They were easy to find: Gel Medium, canvases, and sponges. (Use a coupon for the Gel Medium the canvases happened to be no sale that day so everything was cheap.) I had a vision for the picture and put it together. Simple right... Well then I went to Office Depot to get the picture printed. This was supposed to be the easy part right...well it was a nightmare. After 3 days and 2 hours later I was able to walk out of there with something I could use. Just remember if you have words on your image you need a mirror image and it will save you both the time and a headache to just flip and save your image yourself.

Here's the end result. Picture taken with my iphone. I had some step by step pics of me doing the project but have them saved somewhere in the many picture folders on my computer. Please review Delia's site for step by steps pics.

If you decide to do this project...which I hope you do; this is what you should know:
  1. Its easy!!
  2. When you spread the medium on be sure to spread it evenly.
  3. When you lay your picture down make sure to work out all the air bubbles. I had 2 small ones but didn't realize it until I was removing the paper.
  4. This is not a one hour project. I allowed the medium to dry over night and worked on it here and there throughout the day to remove the paper.
  5. A good tip that helped me get the paper off is to spray the canvas with water all and rub it with your fingers. After that work in small areas. Near the end instead of spraying water on the canvas I sprayed my fingers and then rubbed the area I was working. That seemed to work really good.
  6. This is a distressed canvas image so its supposed to look aged and worn.
So try it and let me know how it works for you. I think with the right pic this will make a wonderful gift for grandparents, friends, and spouses. My husband even liked it and he's not really into this kind of stuff.

Check out Delia's blog to see other images she's transferred.

Enjoy.

Photo Creativity

Tuesday...the day after Monday; however at work today it felt a little like a Monday. Anyway, since I'm trying to join the social media band wagon...in an effort to not get stuck in the 80s...ok its not the 80s but the 20 11s, I've decided I need to particiate. I've been looking at different blogs and some are very interesting. I ran across the Baby Makin Machin Blog (visit it) and I really like it. On her blog she has this wonderful section called 365 love letters; where she takes pics of her daughter and puts a letter or script on them. So awesome! Well, I loved her last pic so much I decided to recreate it for my son.

Sunday I took him for a walk around the neighborhood and then took him on this little wooded trail. I just allowed him to explore and walk around while I snapped pictures of him. I was able to get this awesom shot:

I did some editing in lightroom...very little color editing; put it in PS8 and put the words on it and bam! I now have this nice pick to share with my son some day. I think he will love it when he's an adult.  I shared it wth some folks at work and they just loved it....I do too.

This little project took no time and will be a lasting image that CJ will love one day...its crazy to think that his kids might see it one day...how sweet is that!

Crafty Mom

Ok, so its been a while...I've been busy.  First as you can see I've changed my blog's name from Deliciously Cute Photography to Deliciously Cute Creations.  I've started some new hobbies and thought I would like to use the blog to display them.

Recently, I've started crocheting and making some really cool hats.  From cute adult hats; which my friends at work are calling the Wiz Kahfila...this rap guy who's now married to Amber Rose...Kayne West's ex.  Ok, ok, ok...side tracked; anyway their cute and if I have a pic I'll post.  I've also made these really cute kid character hats...Sock Monkey and Owl.

The urge to make them came from my obsession with ETSY.  I'm on that site all the time trying to find cute fun things for my son.  I ordered him this Owl hat...you can see in the post from his 1st birthday.  After getting it I thought...I can so make this.  So I used Youtube videos to teach myself some basic stitches (Crochet by Teresa...the bomb) and googled pattern abbreviations and BAM that was all she wrote.  Now I've gotten just about everyone at my job hooked on hooking!  My next hat will be the Angry Bird Hat featured on Teresa's website and newest Youtube post...not because I like or really want to make it but because my husband asked me to make it for him...so I'm going to.  I'll post it when its done.

So as I work on new things I hope to share them here and hopefully you can follow along as well.

Here are two of my hats:

First Birthday Celebration

So I'm a little late on posting CJ's 1st birthday party pics. Its really hard to find time and the crazy thing is I'm known for taking pics at family events; but a lot of people say they never get a chance to see them. I usually post them to sites like facebook or my msn live account for people to view. Sad thing is, most of my family  really don't use the internet...I know its kind of strange to actually think people don't use the internet these days.  Honestly I can't imagine...especially since I Google everything. Yes everything...its kind of mine and my husband's thing. Everyone use to joke with us both that our son was a Google baby....we googled everything when he was born. I still do...just googled techniques to get him to sleep through the night...and yes, the information worked.  Its a blessing.

So anyway, back to the reason why I'm posting...about 2 weeks ago; July 23rd to be exact. We celebrated CJ's birthday. I took soooo many pictures, I'm sure I have over 200. The event was wonderful, he was so happy. Alot of people said don't go all out because he won't remember but every penny spent was worth it. I just wanted to share a few of the pics from that wonderful day.

These are just regular pics:
